An Unnecessary Reaction

A striker fumes over being unused

Anthony Martial was, at one point, a rising French striker. A move from Manaco to Manchester United was set to make a step in the right direction for his career. This was only intestified when he scored a debut goal against Liverpool.

However, as time has gone on, his career has gone on a downward spiral. He currently ply's his trade for Mexican side, Monterrey. He has hit a new low as he has now been banished by the side.

This comes after throwing a touchline tantrum in Mexico, according to reports.

Martial, who chalked up over 300 appearances during his nine years at Old Trafford, was released by Man United when his contract came to an end in the summer of 2024.

Following a short one-year stint with Greek outfit, AEK Athens, the former France international moved to Mexico to join Monterrey in September 2025 on a two-year deal - but his career has now appeared to hit a new low.

According to Mexican outlet, TUDN, the 30-year-old striker has been exiled from training after he reacted furiously to not being substituted during Monterrey's 3-2 defeat by Chivas de Guadalajara last Sunday.

It is claimed Martial threw a strop on the substitutes' bench when youngster, Joaquin Moxica, was brought on in the 74th minute, with Monterrey three goals behind.

Furious at being overlooked by manager, Nicolas Sanchez, Martial lost his temper and remained an unused substitute for the rest of the game.

Martial's reported meltdown was spotted by Monterrey's staff and the ex-Red Devils striker was subsequently punished and ordered to train away from the main group for the remainder of the week.

The forward has struggled for form of late, netting just once in his last 21 appearances for the Mexican outfit.

When he arrived at Old Trafford for £36million in 2015, the highest fee for a teenager at the time, Martial was expected to kick on and become one of the world's best talents in attack, especially after scoring against Liverpool on his debut.

The Frenchman subsequently struggled for consistency in Manchester amid injury issues and frequent managerial changes and eventually left with a tally of just over 10 goals a season across all competitions at Old Trafford.

After falling down the pecking order in 2022, Martial was loaned out to Sevilla where he endured a barren spell in front of goal, scoring just once in 12 games, before completing a permanent free transfer away to AEK Athens in 2024.

His tantrum has seen the ex-Manchester United star told to stay away from training for the remainder of the week after his antics were not well received. The French forward moved to Mexico to join Monterrey in September 2025 on a two-year deal, but his spell has now hit a new low.

Despite heading to Monterrey with a huge reputation, Martial has found it hard to make an impact and the striker has just one goal to his name across his last 21 appearances for the Mexican outfit.

It represents further decline for a player who was once the most expensive teenager in the world after signing for United in the summer of 2015 for £36million under Louis van Gaal. Martial moved from Monaco and enjoyed a sensational debut.

Martial, who has 30 senior international caps to his name, is in danger of seeing his stock slump to the point that finding another suitor may prove difficult. His ability has never been in doubt, but attitude questions have hung over his head for some time.

Young talents can either prosper with the pressure or falter. It's quite obvious that Martial falls under the latter. This is especially traumatic if they are hyped up as a huge player at the time of signing.

He needs to learn that he isn't the big cheese anymore. The younger generation needs to display their skills and abilities.
