A Special Post: Akira Toriyama

A true legend passes away

This news is so big that I want to write about it. Akira Toriyama has passed away on 1 March 2024. For the readers who aren't unaware of who he is; he is the creator of the most popular anime of all time: Dragon Ball/Z/Super.

Growing up and to this day, I love watching the anime. Every episode brought out exciting content and the need to want to immediately watch the next episode. It's hard to put into words as to how big the series is. I obviously didn't meet him but I still feel pain. Although there is a huge gape in the anime world, the memory will last forever.

The Dragonball saga will always influence anime fans. It is still talked about and every fan will watch it. This anime is highly addictive. As soon as you watch one episode, you will most likely do anything for the next episode to come.

The most iconic scene of them all was the debut episode of the Super Saiyan ("Transformed at Last").

Although it's mostly action, there are some humourous moments too. This includes Goku and Piccolo trying to get their driver's licenses ("Goku's Ordeal"); Vegeta's pink shirt ("Another Super Saiyan"/"Welcome Back Goku"/"Mystery Revealed") and talk of the Elder Kai getting together with Bulma ("True Saiyans Fight Alone"). There are the various actions of Master Roshi as well. There are others but these are the ones that stick to me.

Another aspect is that it appeals to the viewers/fans. Part of this was the breaking of the 4th wall. I don't know about the other viewers/fans but I felt engaged when that occured. Additionally, the series also appealed to the human aspect. This was done by the actions being done to protect the loved ones or to save the world. This is a representation of the real world. If a person were to find out that a loved one was in danger, they would do just about anything to save them.

The series could also be seen as a family show as well. This is because the importance of family is always emphasized. Family life is always shown in the series. The importance of communities is shown among the Namekians (the people from Namek).

It is hard to turn away from the series. It's the type of show that keeps on getting better and better. It's a gift that keeps on giving. I tend to get excited whenever I hear something new is coming out. Lately, it's been movies that have come out. The quality gets better and better. It's always a rollercoaster of excitement.

Akira Toriyama will always be remembered. When someone creates an impact on a certain matter, that person can always leave a mark on the consciousness on those who are impacted by it. His legacy will be this series. He will forever be in our hearts.

Rest in Peace, Akira Toriyama (5 April 1955 - 1 March 2024).
